Post Concussion Syndrome Week 4 recovery PCS (day 33)

Comment 1 Standard

I know these aren’t in line with my usual posts, but if someone is googling for help with PCS, I hope they can find some kind of hope here and know they are NOT alone. The video below is the only site I could find relating to what I am dealing with after weeks of searching.

I mentioned last week how I was coping and listed a few things that helped me including verses. If anyone is suffering form PCS or you know anyone who is, below is an excellent video that describes what we are going through. If anyone asks how I am, I either reply with a good, okay, alright or hurting. I don’t go into detail because I don’t want to think about it, but Laura, in the video below, describes everything I am experiencing as I trek though this.

Like shes says, we don’t have a cast on our head and we look normal, but we are dealing with many concussion symptoms no one can see – not even MRI’s or CT scans.

Am I any better than last week? Well, it’s like asking if I saw any growth in the tree in my backyard. I’m sure it grew, but I just can’t see it. Please know that hope is ahead and don’t ever ever give up. Use scripture to pull you out of the pit of depression and anxiety, ask for prayer – or leave a comment and I will be praying for you. The bible says to rejoice in our trials, find something to give thanks about and listen to uplifting songs of hope. I am thankful God stopped everything in my life and had me slow down. I now have more time with the Lord and more time for prayer.

In the first week or two after hitting my head, I felt like I was being sealed up in a coffin and no one could see  I was alive. Inside I was myself and my thoughts were normal but I couldn’t express anything. It made me wonder about the many people and children I see in wheelchairs that can’t talk or express themselves. I wonder if inside they want so badly to talk and express themselves but they are shut in and no one understands.

We are still the same, our processor is just a little slow

How much longer do I have? I don’t know and I don’t care right now. I don’t want to think about it. I can’t walk 7 miles or go to dance class everyday like I used to, but I’ll find new things to do. Take the challenge! Be strong! Walk by faith, even when we can’t see it. Remember Hebrews 11 says : Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. You may not see or feel it, but have Faith that God will heal you and don’t let your faith get tossed around like the waves of the sea. Get scripture out and say it all day if you have to, keep your Faith alive and refuse to entertain thoughts of hopelessness and fear. It’s not easy. It’s a war and you need to fight it.

2 Cor 12:9 MY GRACE is sufficient for you for my POWER is
made perfect in WEAKNESS.

God knows

God cares

God sees

God hears

Cry out to Him

Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
 I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;

Wait, I say, on the Lord ! Psalm 27:14

The Lord says,  “In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”Isaiah 30:15

Concussion Recovery week 3. day 27

Comments 3 Standard

ughhhhh 27 days! Can you believe this. I wished I was still sleeping when I woke up today because when I’m sleeping there is no pain, just an occasional weird dream. Not every morning is like today, every day is different.

I don’t have an exciting story about my concussion, I woke up with a bruised head and later I bumped my head at the gym during a vacation in fort Myers at Pink Shell. Two hours later it hit me. Not an exciting story, I wasn’t doing triples on skates, kayaking through rough waters, jumping out of an airplane or exploring caves in Turkey – no, just an ordinary knock me out concussion without notice! I’m in bed most of the day. I’m not supposed to read, watch tv or do anything with thinking but here I am blogging and I’m reading the bible, a little dizzy now, but I hope to make it through.

I had NO idea recovery would be this long. I’ve been wanting to blog but my mind won’t let me. It’s difficult to drive, it takes all my concentration. If I see a bird or an iguana or anything that gets my attention, I forget I’m driving “Oh look! that hawk is huge and has a fish in his claws..or is it a baby duck, what is it hmmm I wonder what lake he got that fish from  ” or “wow, look at all those vultures circling the marked off area of swamp, I bet there’s a body in there, should I call the authorities, why aren’t the vultures eating yet” . So on my last 2 short driving excursions, those were a couple of my distracting thoughts before I remember again that I’m driving. I stay off the road mainly, just once or twice took a short drive, but need more time.  If someone in front of you is slow, please be patient! it may be me, and I always honk back. That’s just who I am.

I can handle an occasional conversation but if I’m around more than 3 people, I get really confused and it’s difficult.

Staring has become my new hobby and scrubbing grout or a stain on anything for a long time, is a new skill i can do. I now notice things I never did before, like how I need to clean my blinds and my kitchen cupboards. One thing at a time. It’s almost like I’m on Ritalin. but hey, is anyone listening?

One of my first days back at attempting to read, I read this:

Daniel 11:35 And some of those of understanding shall fall, to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time of the end; because it is still for the appointed time.

  Wait a minute, I just fell and is this verse telling me something  or am I thinking to much?

So let me share some things I’ve learned, Ive thought or helped me though:

  1. Always be prepared – Thank God I had 6 months of homeschool planned with papers printed and organized in a binder per week. I am sure God nudged me to do that for this purpose.
  2. Live a life to please the Lord and not people. I can’t make everyone happy and I am A OK with that.
  3. I think depression is an evil spirit that tries to take over, you need to fight back. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. If you don’t agree, that’s cool, I have no energy to fight. I think the same of anxiety as well. I cant see into the spirit world, but that’s what I’m thinking. Don’t be mad
  4. Is it just me, or are doctor’s over medicating everyone
  5. Please be quiet
  6. Always remain hopeful! So many times I was losing hope, hate that feeling! Healing is taking so long and I’m used to drive through wendy’s rapido about everything in life. So this sloooooowneess is a new thing to me. I remembered the 10 spies who went to spy out the land and 8 had NO hope, only 2 believed God even though it looked impossible. I have to remember this – even though my days may look hopeless- I don’t believe what I feel or see – I have to have hope, I have to believe that better days and healing are ahead. It would greatly displease God to see that I didn’t hope in His healing and hope and know that He is always with me.
  1. Fix my thoughts. I had to recite this daily and answer each question.
  • what is true? God cares and watches over me, I rest in His shadow
  • What is Noble? A heart that Loves the Lord
  • What is right? That I don’t give up, that I hang on to the Lord – wait on the Lord, yes wait on the Lord
  • What is pure? The heart of the Father who created me and His Son who died for my awful sins.
  • What is lovely? Your eyes are like doves, thank you Jesus!
  • What is admirable? to be light and an example of Christ in this world
  • What is excellent? God’s goodness!
  • What is praiseworthy? My heart is full of thanks for all the blessings of God, they cannot be counted. So so so so thankful for laughter and humor. So many things have made me laugh even when I couldn’t talk in the hospital.
  1. Change your thoughts to thankfulness, certainly theres something you can be thankful for. Hey! I can read!
  2. Ask God for joy, that He would pour out the oil of gladness on you. sing it: If you want joy, you must ask for it, if you waaant joooy you must ask for it…the joy of the Lord is your strength!
  3. I hope I never have another bear dream again
  4. God knew this was going to happen, God is in control. He cares! yes He does. Trust in Him
  5. Ask for peace, amen. Pray for healing and never give up.
  6. I watched John Hagee and He said God never takes something from you unless He’s going to give you something far better than what you have. Give up whatever keeps you in bondage. Take the challenge to be better than what you can be. Maybe God dropped a catfish in my life to increase vigor – had to watch show to get that
  7. I’m getting dizzy but I don’t want to stop
  8. I found peace and rest in the shelter of the Most High, yes I did.
  9. He calls you back to Him
  10. His mercy is New every day! I say this every morning to myself. I didn’t get it at first but now I do.
  11. His power is perfected in weakness, I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one. Read Paul’s many attacks and you’ll feel better.
  12. Read Job, He lost everything, even his dignity before all he knew. Hang on to God’s hope and don’t ever give up.
  13. Stop worrying, you need to fix your thoughts for that one.
  14. Bring all your thoughts captive to the Lord! He’s had to take a lot of luggage full of thoughts from me lately.
  15. Let the Word of God change your mind, to be a new person in Christ
  16. Glory in your infirmaties  – Lord knows I’m still working on that – that the power of Christ may rest upon me, I’m not sure I wrote that one right
  17. The stuff I’m writing is in the bible, but I don’t have the wherewithal to give you the scriptures
  18. Should I celebrate Rosh Hashana ?
  19. So so so thankful for friends and family for helping me! Also, for sending me encouraging verses – and dinner! thanks M!
  20. “Nevertheless, He regarded their affliction, when He heard them cry” Ps 106:44
  21. The Lord says ” I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God and they shall be my people” 2 Cor 6″16
  22. “They cried out to the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them out of their distresses. Ps107;6
  23. Repent! I’ve been a jerk
  24. Sorrow and mourning is good, it refines us, ask King Solomon, he’ll tell you
  25. “He brought me out of the darkness and the shadow of death and broke their chains in pieces. Ps 107 somewhere
  26. Is 26:3-4 The Lord will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him. Trust in the Lord forever
  27. Calm down! psalm 131
  28. Charles Stanley said ” You cannot wander to far, fail too many times or exceed Christ’s love. When you repent and turn to Him, He restores you to fellowship as though nothing had ever happened.

Okay, Im too dizzy and slightly nauseous to finish but I have lots more to share and say but it takes to much effort so for now, I must rest! That needs editing, excuse me, I must go stare at my closet door for a few hours. I hope you enjoy my journey blog.

Pray always. The Our father and Ps 23 have been my guide and the meditation of my heart through it all.

Peace people and Behave!

Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. How can I have that faith?

Comments 7 Standard
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1

12 Keys to Faith

#1: No fear. You can not fear man, man’s words or his countenance
Faith requires great boldness and courage. It takes – well, sometimes, it is putting yourself in a position to be mocked or made fun of. It’s an action, it’s words spoken, it’s like the bible says “faith without works is dead”. God’s faith doesn’t match the logic of our world. To speak life over a person close to death takes great boldness and faith. You must be able to ignore the sneers, comments, countenance and words that go against what you believe. You must stand unshakable in Christ Jesus.

“I, yes I, am the one who comforts you.
So why are you afraid of mere humans,
who wither like the grass and disappear?.Is 51:12

Nehemiah was a man who was unmoved by the defeating words of his enemy. He sought out to do the impossible . He kept his focus and led in the rebuilding of Jerusalem.

#2: Never Give up. Believe that God can do the impossible
Think of the moment Peter was about to step out of the boat, that’s where we need to be with our faith. Taking the leap even though everyone tells you  “No, that’s impossible”.  Sometimes we think our situation is hopeless and there is no end, but that is not true. We can trust in God even in the most hopeless situation. God rescues us, this we can count on. Consider this trying time to be a test of your faith.

“With God, all things are possible” Matthew 19:26, mark 10:27, Luke 18:27
 For with God nothing will be impossible.Luke 1:37

Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalms 34:19

let God be true, but every man a liar. Romans 3:4

   He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day Psalm 91:1-16

#3 Count it all joy
Even in the darkest hours, I can have joy in my heart. I have this joy because I keep my faith in God’s word. Sure, things can shake us up, but we need to be ready with our sword (which is the word of God) and warfare (our protection Eph 6). Maybe we can see it as a faith meter, keeping our tank full or keeping our focus on God’s truth.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5

 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1-4

  Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit  1 Thessalonians 5:16-19

#4 Be willing to risk looking like a fool to the world, but a faithful servant to the Lord-: Not ashamed or embarrassed.
Faith means that you are willing to look foolish before the world and those around you. Don’t you think those in Noah’s day thought Noah was a complete fool? He was building a huge ark- for what? His sons were busy building this big ark, I’m sure their friends and family thought they were crazy.

It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith Hebrews 11

What do you think Abraham’s family thought of him when he went to sacrifice his son or when he left his entire family and his hometown to an unknown location that the Lord was leading him to? So many examples are in the bible of men and woman who did the impossible, they went against what others and the world would have had them do – Esther,  Ruth, Abraham, Jacob, Abel, Joshua, Moses, Moses parents, the people of Israel when they walked through the waters, Issac, Joseph,Jeremiah, Ezekiel, David, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, John the Baptist, Jesus, Peter, Paul and many more.

A friend of mine was told her mother was not going to live through the night.  She spoke scriptures over her mother and told the doctors and nurses: “no! my mother will live”. Some laughed, some tried to comfort her with her mothers death but no one believed her words. Guess what! Her mother lived and she was miraculously healed. My daughter spoke out in faith when the doctor told her she needed back surgery. She risked being called a fool by saying to the doctor “ You are wrong and God is going to heal me”. That’s amazing faith. This faith pleases the Lord.

Abel is spoken of as a man of great faith. He gave the Lord the best he had. He trusted the Lord and was not afraid to give up his best.  His brother hated him, so we can guess that his brother would try to discourage him with words “Why do you need to sacrifice so much?”.  I’m sure his brother would verbally hurt him, but Abel didn’t let his brothers words and countenance affect him and his faith. He always stood firm.

#5 Speak life- speak out – stop complaining. Tell others that you trust in God. Let your life be a testimony of praise for Him.

   Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name. Malachi 3:16

Reading over Hebrews 11, I see that faith is more than just believing. It’s moving out in faith, it’s fearless and it’s willing to risk everything. Before, I only noticed the obedience and faith of the great patriarchs, I never considered the persecution they endured because of their faith. Faith is when you don’t rely on man’s words, worldly knowledge or influence. It’s when you step out – in a new realm. It’s just like walking on the water. You are about to do something that no one would believe. With God, ALL things are possible.

  It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise.  And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead—a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Prov 18:21

#6 Don’t let your faith be tossed around like the waves of the sea – believing one minute and doubting the next. No fear, No doubt

 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yoursMark 11:23-24

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.  Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:6-8

#7 : Have scripture ready, close-by at all times to crush any doubt, unbelief or lies that the devil wants you to worry about

 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you .Luke 10:18-19

  One important key to faith is your sword, which is the word of God. I wrote down scripture that defeats any lie or false thinking that may enter my mind. I posted them all over my house-  on my refrigerator, oven, doors, cabinets, mirrors, walls, children’s rooms and everywhere. That may sound crazy to some, but every time I walk by the scripture I read it out loud and it changes me. I woke up so tired the other day, moping into the kitchen and boom! There was scripture in my face when I looked up. I said it out loud and I could feel my faith meter for that day increasing. It’s really amazing.   In the verse below, we learn that Jesus wants to do miracles for us but unbelief gets in the way.

 “ And so he did only a few miracles there because of their unbelief..and because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them” (Matt13:58, Mark 6:5)

Looking back to the examples of the Israelites in the wilderness, their doubt and unbelief angered the Lord. Some were killed by plague, other times they lost their protection. Ultimately their fear and doubt caused a 2 week journey to turn into a 40 year journey of testing.  When the Lord showed them the promised land, only 2 out of the 10 spies believed God would deliver them. Eight of the 10 men said it would be impossible and caused the entire congregation to doubt, fear and complain to the Lord. The 8 doubting spies feared the people in the land, for they were giants. The congregation wept and cried all night long from hearing the fearful and hopeless report. They complained to Moses and doubted God. The Lord was angry and those who feared in unbelief died in the plague.

The Lord said to Moses“How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them?  I will disown them and destroy them with a plague. Then I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are!”.” Numbers 14:11

“Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it. …. the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord.”

Hebrews 3: Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,

In the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,
And saw My works forty years.  Therefore I was angry with that generation,
And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’
So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;  but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.  For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

#8: Learning to wait. Faith takes patience, or waiting time in which we hope

Consider the life of Joseph; he was hated and rejected by his 10 brothers. They sold him and he ended up as a slave in another land of another language. He was later forgotten in a prison cell. Joseph could have given up at any moment, but he didn’t. He could have thought- well, this is it, I’m going to die here, my life is over. However, Psalm 105 tells us that God was testing him.

“He sent a man before them— Joseph—who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons.  Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord tested him.  The king sent and released him, The ruler of the people let him go free.  He made him lord of his house, And ruler of all his  possessions.”

   How many of us today would have withstood that test?

In Act7, we are told that God delivered Joseph from all his troubles- and that same promise is for you also. God doesn’t promise us a life without trials or troubles, but He does promise us that He will rescue us, He will deliver us. He will deliver you from all your troubles.

  • Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalms 34:19
  • Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!Psalm 27:14
  •  Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20
  • Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass Psalm 37:7

#9 Believe!

Here’s a lesson the Lord taught me last week as I pondered on the faith that pleases God:
Within my heart, I heard:
Do you believe you have eternal life? I said of course I do, I believe that. I have no doubt.
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you sins? Yes, I do, I do.
Do you believe God cares for you? Yes, I do
You believe everything in the bible to be true, but why does your faith toss like a wave when you are believing for me to rescue you? to answer your prayers? To heal you? that whatever you ask in My name, it will be given?
If you believe, because of your faith, that you have eternal life and that Jesus died on the cross for you, you should have the same faith for all of my words.

 I have noticed that my faith can be just like the waves described in scripture. That’s where doubt, fear and hopelessness try to enter my thoughts. Remembering Phil 4:8 has helped me. I know the enemy tries to destroy our faith in the Lord. He sends arrows of doubt, fear and unbelief into our thoughts, but God has given us the power to reject those wrong thoughts . God has given us Spiritual warfare in order to fully protect us – and they do!

  •  And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith Matthew 21:22
  • He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to GodRomans 4:20
  • I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord Psalm 19:14
  •  For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.2 Timothy 1:7
  • So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17
  • Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go Joshua 1:9
  •  What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, …Romans 4:1-25
  •  We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5
  • And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.Hebrews 11:6
  •  For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

#10 Pray to Him- Cry out to Him and he will hear you( Gen 21:14-21. 1 Kings 17:18-24, Luke 8:40-48)

Psalm 107
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!
Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.
For he has gathered the exiles from many lands,
from east and west, from north and south.

Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless.
Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died.
Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
    and he rescued them from their distress.
He led them straight to safety,to a city where they could live.
Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

Some sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery.
They rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High.
That is why he broke them with hard labor; they fell, and no one was there to help them.
Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.

He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains.
Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. For he broke down their prison gates of bronze; he cut apart their bars of iron.

Some were fools; they rebelled and suffered for their sins.
They couldn’t stand the thought of food, and they were knocking on death’s door.
Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
    and he saved them from their distress.
He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.
Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and sing joyfully about his glorious acts.

#11: Have a right relationship with the Lord

You must love the Lord you God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul and all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself.”we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law” Roman 3:28.This doesn’t give us an excuse to continue on in any sin we are living in. Sin in our lives  can interfere with our prayers. Don’t let sin be a stumbling block. Don’t pretend to Honor God with your lips but turn your back on Him.

  • Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered 1 Peter 3:7
  • Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. Romans 4:13
  •  Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I findthat your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.Revelation 3:2

#12 Remember all He has done – keep a journal of remembrance

Keep a journal. Stop and recall all the miracles He’s done in your life. Remembering builds up your faith.

“By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. 35 Women received their loved ones back again from death.But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. 36 Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. 37 Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. 38 They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground. All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised.  For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us. Heb 11

Why so downcast O my Soul? Put your hope in God. David’s Rx for the downcast soul.

Consider David’s prayer, have you ever felt like this?
(taken from Psalms 42,43,142,143)

My spirit is overwhelmed within me,
My heart within me is distressed.
My spirit fails!
O my God, my soul is cast down within me;

 For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in darkness,
Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me..
 I will say to God my Rock,
“Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”As with a breaking of my bones,
My enemies reproach me,
While they say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
Why do You cast me off?
 Do not hide Your face from me
 I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare before Him my trouble.
 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
Then You knew my path.
In the way in which I walk
They have secretly set a snare for me.
 Look on my right hand and see
Attend to my cry,
For I am brought very low;
Deliver me from my persecutors,
For they are stronger than I.
 Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may praise Your name;

(This also sounds like a prophecy of Jesus- “And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground”- and that was after an angel has appeared from heaven to strengthened Him- Luke 22)

As King Solomon said :
 To everything there is a season:

A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away

  1. Remember the Lord: He is your strength. He is your help. He is faithful and righteous

  3. Muse on all the Works of His hands
  4. Praise Him, enter His gates with thanksgiving.
  5. Cry out to Him

  8. Lift up your hands
  9. Take Shelter in Him

       we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12

We walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh
                   The bible tells us that our battles are spiritual. Sometimes we think it’s a certain person trying to bother us or a situation that seems beyond hope. Nothing in your life is beyond hope. You are special in the eyes of the Lord. You matter greatly to Him. You have been placed here by the almighty God and He delights in you. Anything that goes against these thoughts is not from the Lord God, your Father.  In the spiritual world, if you could see it, you would see a demonic force trying to blow your light out.(Matthew 13- Parable of the Seeds explains this in more detail) It’s true. The Lord showed me how the devil puts wrong thoughts and words in our minds. They fly in exactly like an arrow- right into your mind, your thoughts. We either reject the incoming abominations or let it sit and roll it around in our mind until it eventually falls into our heart and flows out into our life.(Proverbs 4:23)

    Wrong thoughts? You don’t have to stew over wrong thoughts and wonder why you thought certain things. It’s most likely an enemy invasion. Bring all your thoughts captive to Christ. I imagine a great big treasure chest and I tell Jesus –I can’t handle all this. I mentally put all my thoughts and problems in the box, lock it and bring it captive to Jesus. I trust He takes care of everything for me and I find peace with that.

   “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled “ 2 cor 10:5

For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in darkness,
Like those who have long been dead.
Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
My heart within me is distressed

King David had down days too. Wow, a man after God’s own heart had his own dark spiritual battles. We are not alone, reach out to the Lord and ask others to pray for you.

 David’s Prayer:

David tells the Lord;
1-How he feels, he pours out his heart and his complaint before him
2-How he remembers and recalls that God is able to save him
3-David tells the Lord that he hopes in Him and that the Lord is his help
4- David praises Him -He is altogether praiseworthy. Proclaims His praises even in the midst of His storm
5- Enter His gates with thanksgiving: He is trustworthy and all loving. David thanks the Lord for His great Works, answering him and helping him in the past. He remembers how God has helped him before.
6- David pleads:  Please hear me, O Lord. Do not turn away. Hear my prayer, O Lord, Give ear to my supplications! “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you,  and lead me along the path of everlasting life-Psalm 139
7- He remembers as he speaks and Prays God’s Promises in prayer: “The righteous shall surround me, For You shall deal bountifully with me”
8- David asks the Lord : Teach me to do your will

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.
 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all Your works;
I muse on the work of Your hands.
 I spread out my hands to You;
My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah
 Answer me speedily, O Lord;
My spirit fails!
Do not hide Your face from me,
Lest I be like those who go down into the pit.
Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You.
 Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies;
In You I take shelter.
 Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Your Spirit is good.
Lead me in the land of uprightness.
 Revive me, O Lord, for Your name’s sake!
For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
In Your mercy cut off my enemies,
And destroy all those who afflict my soul;
For I am Your servant(psalm 143)
I cry out to the Lord with my voice;
With my voice to the Lord I make my supplication.
 I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare before Him my trouble.
 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
Then You knew my path.
In the way in which I walk
They have secretly set a snare for me.
 Look on my right hand and see,
For there is no one who acknowledges me;
Refuge has failed me;
No one cares for my soul.
 I cried out to You, O Lord:
I said, “You are my refuge,
My portion in the land of the living.
 Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low;
Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I.
 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name;
The righteous shall surround me,
For You shall deal bountifully with me (Ps 142)
In Your faithfulness answer me,
And in Your righteousness.
 Do not enter into judgment with Your servant,
For in Your sight no one living is righteous

(But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness)1 John 1:9

Cry out to God; yes, I shout.
    Oh, that God would listen to me!
 When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord.
All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven,
    but my soul was not comforted.
 I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help Ps 77

Hear the Word of the Lord:

 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.Proverbs 12:25

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothingJames 1:2-8

When I went through a trying time in my life, I held on to this verse in Romans: We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-4

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed Ps 34:17-18 Duet 31:8

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire.He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 3:3 Ps 40:1-3

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Cor 1:4

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God Ps 42:5

Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you Is 50;4

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn.This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,And their righteousness is from Me,”Says the Lord.Is 54:17

“I, even I, am He who comforts you.Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass? Is 51:12 (This is a special verse to me. When I cried out in distress to the Lord- out of the heavens I could see this verse coming down to me – closer and closer until I was able to read it. Amen! God is good and He hears us.)

Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” 1 Peter 5:6 Duet 31:8

This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life Psalm 119:50

 And in that day you will say: “O LORD, I will praise You; Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me. Sing, O heavens! Be joyful, O earth! And break out in singing, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, And will have mercy on His afflicted  Isaiah 49:13 Isaiah 12:1

 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.  For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, Romans 15:5  Romans 15:4 Matthew 5:4

There is no one like the God of Jeshurun (Israel), Who rides the heavens to help you, And in His excellency on the clouds.  The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ‘Destroy!’ Deut. 33:26-27

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Ps 27:14 Ps 9:9

Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.  The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all Ps 34:17-19

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength: Is 26:3-4 Psalm 147:3 Ps 55:22

 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.Isaiah 40:31,

 Everything is possible for him who believes.Mark 9:23

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Dear Friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.The Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. James 4:10, 1 Peter 4:12, 5:7, 2 Peter 2:9

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame. You are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you. Ps 25:3-5, Ps 33:22 James 4:8

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.Therefore comfort one another with these words.Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak .Comfort each other and edify one another.1 Thessalonians 5:14. 1 Thessalonians 4:18 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Romans 15-16   John 14:27
